Forensic and Investigation Services

Grant Thornton provides investigative accounting, tracing, dispute resolution support and expert witness services for civil, criminal and insurance matters. Our success is founded on the quality of our services and our lack of conflicts. We recognise that independence and objectivity are essential to this specialism.

We have a dedicated team of 19 partners and directors and 100 highly qualified staff all of whom offer independent and authoritative opinion. All members of the team are familiar with claims and disputes, as well as the evidential and procedural requirements of the forums in which they might be assessed or concluded.

We offer solutions and advice in the following areas:

  • expert witness and forensic accounting: professional negligence covering breach of contract, loss of profits and wasted expenditure, shareholder and partnership disputes, acquisition and merger disputes, breach of warranty, business and share valuations, employment disputes, intellectual property disputes, competition matters, matrimonial ancillary relief, personal injury, fatal accident and medical negligence. Our team are active in matters being resolved through civil and criminal litigation, mediation, arbitration and determination.

We offer partners qualified to mediate and regularly act as expert determinator under sales and purchase agreements; regulated business services to assist solicitors and insurers with the quantum issues and occasionally liability issues, through to professional negligence work in the financial services sector, particularly concerning pensions mis-selling, discretionary management, broker fund management and general investment advice.

  • Investigations: we undertake all forms of investigation and forensic accounting, including fraud and other economic crime.

  • Insurance claims: our Chartered Loss Adjusters can help both the insured and the insurer to analyse, prepare and negotiate significant claims.

  • Forensic IT: we can assist with the discovery of hidden data, to recreate critical computer related communications, access hard-to-find or apparently lost data, search and manage e-mails and databases, and present computer forensic filings.
